St. Vincent de Paul Society to Host First Open House

One of the biggest secrets on the Eastern Shore is how much the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) helps those in need throughout Talbot County. Its food pantry, for example, provided $1.3 million worth of groceries last year to those struggling to feed their families.

To promote its mission to a broader audience, SVdP will sponsor its first-ever open house on Sunday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its headquarters at 29533 Canvasback Dr.

St. Vincent Bldg – Easton, MD

The public will be able to tour the Thrift Center and Food Pantry. Light refreshments will be served.

“It doesn’t matter who’s in need,” says Donna Horney, events manager for SVdP. “Even though we’re affiliated with a Catholic church [Saints Peter & Paul], we help people out regardless of race, creed, gender or religious preference.”

Horney noted that SVdP last year also provided nearly $140,000 to people who needed assistance paying rent, a heating bill or a medical visit, among other basic needs.

Anyone attending the open house is also welcome to become a volunteer and join more than 300 others who already give of their time, which can range from an hour or two a week to an hour or two a month.
