Looking for an outdoor sailing activity, a chance to meet new people or to share local maritime history with visitors? The nonprofit Dorchester Skipjack Committee is looking for volunteers to join the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester. We’ll teach you to sail with passengers on our Chesapeake Bay Skipjack, dredge for oysters and share stories of the days when the oyster was king of the Eastern Shore economy.
Nathan is a U.S. Coast Guard registered passenger vessel commanded by a professional captain and we offer an extensive sail training program.
We are looking for volunteers interested wooden boats to help us maintain Nathan to the highest professional standards, and we welcome volunteers interested in local history and bay ecology to serve on board as docents, and we always need volunteers to register passengers, book charters and perform the many administrative and marketing tasks that keep Nathan underway 80 to 100 days during the season. All our volunteers undergo an extensive training program in their area of interest.
For more information, join us at a virtual Meet the Nathan information session on March 8 or 15th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. For more information, call us at 410 228-7141 or email us at [email protected].
