Cambridge Time Machine: Heading over to the Rock School

October 20, 2023 by The Cambridge Spy
2 Comments

In 1865, it became legal for African Americans in Maryland to be educated, so the Rock School was constructed by the free Black people of Church Creek and moved to its present location two years later. It educated grades 1-7 until 1944 and 1-6 through 1962, when it ceased operations. The building was eventually restored, painted yellow, and renamed the Stanley Institute. It is now open for tours upon request.
