The granite Gothic Revival building that houses Christ Episcopal Church was designed by architect Charles E. Cassell and erected under the supervision of Rev. Theodore Philip Barber, rector of Great Choptank Parish for 43 years. The third Christ Church in Cambridge since 1693, it was consecrated in 1892.

I believe that the Christ Episcopal Church is not constructed of granite, but of serpentine stone, Serpentine Stone is a sandstone, and thus erosion of the exposed faces is common. If the mason who constructed the edifice knew what he was doing, he would lay his stone in such a way to minimise the inevitable exfoliation of the faces. There are many examples of this across the country. This example shows little damage to the facade, and we can be assured that the craftsman who built this structure knew how to do his job.
