The Cambridge Yacht Club was founded in 1911, but this clubhouse at 1 Mill Street was not built until 1937. Designer Victorine du Pont Honsey modeled the structure after founder Alfred I. du Pont’s yacht “Alicia.” The ship facade was removed in the 1960s.

I well remember when the “pilot house” part of the building was still in place complete with funnel and a CYC pennant emblazoned on it. And I’ve always thought that ship’s superstructure as design inspiration for a yacht club building was an inspired choice.
