In 1914, the 600-seat Grand Opera House opened as a movie theater and live-performance auditorium. Phillip Frankel (Bea Arthur’s dad) took down the ornate facade in 1948 and modernized the building for his clothing store, P. Frankel. It is now the location of Craig’s Drug Store.

My 96 year old uncle says that in his youth this front of the Opera building was regularly set up as a reviewing stand for parades along Race St., in particular, he recalls participating in the town’s annual Halloween Parade circa 1930.
