Construction remains on schedule at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Campus at Cambridge in Cambridge Marketplace on Route 50/Ocean Gateway at Woods Road. Brickwork is in progress and the facility’s roof is nearly complete. Contractors are wrapping up weather-proofing the exterior of the building before moving to interior construction. When ready to open in fall 2021, the freestanding medical facility will house a 39,000 square foot Emergency Department with observation beds as well as a 2nd floor medical pavilion that will accommodate a wide array of outpatient medical care services.
As part of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), University of Maryland Shore Regional Health is the principal provider of comprehensive health care services for more than 170,000 residents of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. UM Shore Regional Health’s team of more than 2,200 employees, medical staff, board members and volunteers works with various community partners to fulfill the organization’s mission of Creating Healthier Communities Together.

“Our partnership with Choptank Health is critical in expanding the Health Department’s capacity and community outreach,” said Talbot County Health Department Acting Health Officer Dr. Maria Maguire. “This new site means we can now provide Talbot residents with testing in the Bay Hundred area, with later hours and on an additional day each week. We couldn’t do this without Choptank Health’s help.”

Topics taught during the training will include an overview of hospice, the process of dying, spiritual care and its place in hospice care, the stages of grief, effective communications techniques, family dynamics, stress management and self-care for caregivers.
