The good news for jazz lovers throughout the Eastern Shore is that the Monty Alexander Jazz Festival is back and ready to go this September.
Having had to pull back in 2020 in the face of a major pandemic, jazz great Monty Alexander is once again leading one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most prestigious jazz festivals in the heart of Easton starting Friday, September 3 and ending on Sunday.
While some of the programming has had to be sized down for the Festival’s 2021 season, the big change is that this will be the first time that the Monty Alexander Jazz Festival will be operating with its new parent organization, the Avalon Foundation, after over a decade under the umbrella of Chesapeake Music.
This new partnership is an important one for jazz on the Mid-Shore. With Avalon’s long-term commitment to the Festival, the volunteer leadership sees a much more robust schedule throughout the year once COVID has been defeated.
But in the meantime, the show must go on, and the Spy sat down with the MAJF volunteer chair, Joe Fischer, to get the low-down on how this fun weekend is shaping up.
This video is approximately two minutes in length. For more information about the program and tickets, please go here.
