Itinerant peddler Meyer Nathan opened Nathan’s Furniture on High Street in 1880. The big 1892 fire forced him to rebuild both the store and his townhouse next door. After Meyer died in 1911, son Milford expanded the furniture showroom. The old store at 317 High Street is now the site of the Dorchester Center for the Arts.
The Dorchester Arts Center is located at 321 High St.which was where Nathan’s relocated to after outgrowing his original 317 High address.
