Arts & Culture Editor: Val Cavalheri is a writer, editor, and photographer whose work bridges journalism, radio, and community storytelling. Before moving to Maryland’s Eastern Shore, she spent more than 20 years in Northern Virginia, contributing to outlets including The Washington Post and regional lifestyle magazines. As Arts & Culture Editor for The Talbot Spy and host of WHCP & WFHW Radio’s “Shore Stories,” Val continues to spotlight the people, performances, and creative movements shaping life on the Mid-Shore.
Contributor Kate Emery is a retired chef/restaurant owner who was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming. Kate loves her grandchildren, knitting, and watercolor painting. Kate and her husband, Matt, are longtime residents of Cambridge’s West End, where they enjoy swimming and bicycling.
Design Editor: Jean Dixon Sanders has been a painter and graphic designer for the past thirty years. A graduate of Washington College, where she majored in fine art, Jean started her work in design with the Literary House lecture program. The illustrations she contributes to the Spies are done with watercolor, colored pencil and ink.
Contributor Jennifer Martella has pursued dual careers in architecture and real estate since she moved to the Eastern Shore in 2004. She has reestablished her architectural practice for residential and commercial projects and is a referral agent for Meredith Fine Properties. Her Italian heritage led her to Piazza Italian Market, where she hosts wine tastings every Friday and Saturday afternoons.
