This vintage postcard captures Race Street when it was still the busy commercial heart of Cambridge. Storefront awnings line both sides of the street, automobiles share the road with pedestrians, and the architecture remains surprisingly familiar. It offers a glimpse of downtown Cambridge in an era when Race Street was not simply a route through town, but one of the places where much of the community’s daily life took place.
