It has been a remarkable few weeks for the Spy, and I wanted to take a moment to share both our gratitude and some encouraging news about where we are headed.
First, our deepest thanks to the more than 500 readers who responded to our spring appeal. Together, you contributed nearly $60,000 to support the Spy’s work. These were not just generous gifts, and at all levels of giving, but were critically important to sustaining our mission of providing thoughtful, education-based journalism to the communities we serve.
We are pretty humbled by this level of support. In a time when local news organizations continue to face enormous challenges, your willingness to invest in the Spy is both a vote of confidence and a reminder of why this work matters. It tells us that what we are doing, covering public affairs, highlighting the arts, and providing a platform for civil discourse is valued and worth continuing.
The second piece of news speaks to how we hope to build on that support. I’m very pleased to share that the Spy has entered into a partnership with the Bay to Ocean Journal, the literary publication of the Eastern Shore Writers Association.
For many years, Bay to Ocean has earned the respect of the Delmarva arts and letters community for its commitment to high-quality poetry and creative writing. Through this partnership, the Journal’s editor, Emily Rich, will begin incorporating selected work from the Journal into our Saturday edition, expanding the range of voices and creative expression we offer our readers.
This is exactly the kind of collaboration we believe strengthens both organizations while enriching the cultural life of the Mid-Shore.
