The health department will close for several days in early April to move to a new location.

The Dorchester County Health Department moves to 627 Race Street the week of April 7 to 11.

The agency will close Tuesday, April 8 for the move and re-open at Race Street on Monday, April 14. The department will be closed to the public for most services during that week.

You may still call 410-228-3223 throughout the week except for a short period of time on Friday, April 11.

“We are incredibly grateful to the county council and their staff for ensuring the health department has a building that better suits our current needs and those of the community,” Dr. Casey Scott, Dorchester County health officer, said.

“We hope this new space will serve as a community hub; a place to gather, learn, and receive necessary resources from our staff and programs,” Scott said.

The new building has about three times the space of the health department’s current location at 3 Cedar St. The Race Street property also has up-to-date heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems.

“Moving into a new building is an important step for the health department,” Lenny Pfeffer, Dorchester County Council president, said.

“It provides a fresh space to enhance our services and continue our mission of promoting the health and well-being of the community,” Pfeffer said.

Services:

• Vital Records will close at 12 noon Monday, April 7 and will be closed Tuesday, April 8, through Friday, April 11.
• MA Transportation will be open 8:30-11:30 am Monday, April 7, through Thursday, April 10. MA Transportation will not be taking calls in the afternoons and will be closed completely on Friday, April 11.

Services at the satellite office at 10 Aurora St. will remain open. This includes vaccines and COVID, flu, and RSV testing. Please call 410-228-0235 to make an appointment.

Staff and programs there will move to Race Street later.
