Nolan McCarter named Jim’s Drive In after his son, James. It’s been said that Jim’s “was the place to be at in the 60’s!” It was easy enough to pull up, blow your car horn, and get curb service. But you could also go inside, where there were barstools at the counter, a pinball machine, and a jukebox. The menu included such things as subs, thin-sliced steak sandwiches, pizza burgers, and Walt Travers’s signature power burgers with special sauce. Jim’s also had a great candy selection, and kids walking home from East Cambridge Elementary School could stop by for penny candy.
