For many good reasons, Kevin Beverly and Richard Marks want as many people as possible to view the award-winning documentary SENTENCED this Sunday evening at North Dorchester High School.
Kevin, a board member of Moving Dorchester Foward, and Richard, co-founder of the Dock Street Foundation, are working alongside the J2W Foundation to support the local Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, part of a national movement with over 350 communities focused on the predictive indicator of 3rd-grade reading.
In their interview with the Spy this week, Kevin and Richard make a compelling case for anyone interested in education to watch five moving profiles of adult illiteracy in America.
In addition to understanding the remarkable challenges experienced by those unable to read or write, the Sunday program will also discuss how this severe problem affects our region with local educators Cristy Morrell, Executive Director Critchlow Adkins, Sharon Pepukayi, Superintendent of Talbot County Public Schools, James Redman, Principal, Polaris Village Academy, Jymil Thompson Superintendent, Dorchester County Public Schools, and John Wyatt Founder, J2W Foundation. Spy columnist Al Sikes, who is a co-founder of the READ Foundation, will moderate the discussion.
