After twelve years spent in a spare room of the Cambridge Municipal Building on Gay Street, the library moved into a $20,000 red brick building next door in 1939. It remained there until 1973, when the new library building was constructed at its current location. The old structure is now used for meetings of the City Council.
I spent many an hour in the old library doing my college term papers.
