I’m sure you are aware that Steve Rideout is running for Mayor of Cambridge. What he wants the community to do is vote and I’m trying to encourage that. . He and I have worked together for almost three years trying to help Cambridge and Dorchester County and its children. Based on his past experience and what he has done in Cambridge, he is the most qualified candidate in the race. He’s smart, compassionate, emphatic and a doer. He was instrumental in getting the Mace’s Lane project righted when he was on the city council. I know because I worked with him on it. I have been trying to help the county and city that I grew up in and love and know that with leaders like Steve that listen first, things can and will get better. Steve can make a difference in Cambridge and the county from the mayor position, not because he is all powerful but because he will work to make the community powerful.
For those of you who read this in the city and vote, please do so on August 23rd at the Chesapeake College on Race Street. For those of you who live in the county and know someone in the city, encourage them to vote. This is important. We have to help make this community function better. I truly believe Steve can help from the Mayor’s seat.

I fully concur. Steve has done a remarkable job on many fronts, and this is but one of them. Every so often someone comes along who refuses to accept the status quo and moves a community to new heights. Steve is that guy. Steve’s volunteer and councilmanic efforts have moved the City forward in very positive ways. His successful advocacy for installing a city manager has resulted in bringing structure, professionalism and opportunities to the City.
He is also a person of the highest integrity. I endorse Steve’s candidacy.
Having served for more than 12 years as the Fifth Ward City Commissioner and President of the Council, I enthusiastically endorse the Honorable Judge (retired), Steve Rideout, whom I had the honor to serve with on the 2016-2021 City Council as the next Mayor of Cambridge. As a lawyer and judge, Steve’s entire professional career has been about listening to people. As a lawyer, he listened to his clients’ needs and as a judge he listened to both sides of the case to make the best decision for those involved. That’s what he will do for Cambridge – help to unify and move Cambridge forward! As a commissioner he represented the First Ward, but he worked for ALL wards and residents to make Cambridge a great place to live, work and flourish!
Besides his career in law and on the City Council, Steve is involved in many initiatives, organizations and boards in Cambridge and Dorchester County. He is a member of Moving Dorchester Forward, Dorchester Citizens for Better Government, Mid Shore Community Mediation Center, Mid Shore Community Foundation, Mid Shore CASA, and is a consultant on foster care efforts. As you see, Steve is interested, knowledgeable, capable, experienced, involved and he CARES about people, this city and county! He doesn’t just talk, he works!!
No other candidate can come close to understanding our city and how to move it forward. Steve was instrumental in the formation of the City manager form of government that our council operates under and he thoroughly understands the role of the Mayor. He wrote and worked tirelessly to gain support and consensus from the citizens on that charter. He developed an agreement with the Mace’s Lane Alumni group for how the city would collaborate with and financially assist the Maces Lane Community Center once it is completed.. Steve volunteers with the Cambridge Shoreline Resiliency Project to inform the community about what it is doing as it seeks grant funding to address sea level rise, storm water run- off, and sewer and waterline infrastructure in Cambridge. During his time on City Council Steve kept the citizens of the city informed on all Council activity by writing and publishing the Cambridge Matters newsletter. He wants all citizens to be aware of city council activity.
Steve knows the inner working of the city and its departments. There will be no learning curve- Steve is ready on Day One to become the Mayor of Cambridge!
Please Vote August 23 at Chesapeake College, Race Street for Steve Rideout and Move Cambridge Forward!
