Yes, you read it right! The decision handed down a couple of days ago on June 22 will go down in history as the day they defunded the police by passing a law that every citizen can carry a concealed weapon! So why do we still need the police? With ‘stand your ground’ law and gun rights that allow carrying military-style weapons, we no longer need the US militia. Local police, state police, federal police, etc., no longer have jobs. The guns, now allowed in everyone’s hands, can take care of that. This is what happened in Texas as 92 law officers (state and local) stood outside while a gunman was inside, killing 21 people!! Who needs the police?
As an African American, it also strikes me that we, along with other people of color, are at the top of the hit list! Perhaps the police didn’t act because the majority of the people were Hispanics? Just thinking…
Let’s take a look at this new law. The US Supreme Court, with the likes of African American Justice Clarence Thomas (whose wife is under scrutiny), writes that people need to defend themselves not just at home but anywhere and everywhere necessary. You can fact-check that! This law, although directed at the New York law that says you must have a good reason to carry a concealed weapon, was too broad. You can fact-check that too! So now it’s hunting season for “N*s,” Mexicans, Slant-eyes, Redskins, Jews, you name the rest. These are some names people are still being called in this country. If you think I’m exaggerating, let me refresh your mind. The killer in the Buffalo shooting drove hours to get there “to kill,” in his words, “as many Black people as possible.”
Although the supreme court (intentionally not capitalized) does not apply throughout the country, it has nevertheless set a precedent. Because of this precedent, every state can now challenge and probably win cases about gun laws. The supreme court no longer considered the history but, as stated in some opinions, “only considered the law as was written and giving no consideration for years since its inception.” It is ludicrous to me that anyone of any notable intelligence cannot consider the evolution of time and its events. I thought the constitution was an organic document, not a dead one, but I am obviously wrong!
Let’s not forget all the babies that have been killed in school shootings or the elderly killed in churches. Do we really need more guns on the street in everybody’s hands?
Welcome back to the wild wild west ‘cause it looks like the slogan ‘no one is above the law’ has been eroded. While I’m on it, let’s not forget the last US President and Richard Nixon who are (and were) on that high pedestal: above the law. Remember, Nixon was pardoned for crimes against the US! President #45 is constantly defying laws and is surely above them–even now!
So yep, the police have been defunded; share that great news!
